Corporate Wellbeing Workshops and Culture: Base State FAQs

Base State helps businesses build a culture that drives performance: the kind of team where people do their best work because of how things are run, not in spite of it. Sometimes that starts with a single practical session. Sometimes it's deeper work with the leaders shaping the culture. Either way, the goal is the same.

It came from seeing the same problem from both sides. I've delivered corporate breathwork sessions and seen how much a well-run workshop can do. I've also worked as a sales rep in a high-pressure environment, so I know what workplace stress feels like from the inside. When the pressure's on, people don't need vague wellness advice. They need simple tools they can use in the middle of a real workday, and they need the work itself set up in a way that doesn't grind them down. Base State exists to help with both.

What does Base State actually do?

There are two ways we help.

The first is practical corporate wellbeing workshops. You tell us about your team, your event and what you want people to walk away with, and we match you with a trusted facilitator who fits the brief. It saves you the hours of searching and second-guessing, and gives you a much better chance of running something your team genuinely values.

The second is direct consultancy with leaders who want to build a culture that drives performance. This is the deeper work: looking at how the work is designed and led, how managers support their teams, and how people communicate and recover, so performance holds up over time and good people stay.

Most businesses start with one and grow into the other. A workshop is a great first step. The consultancy is where the lasting change happens.

What's the difference between the workshops and the consultancy?

The workshops are the practical, bookable entry point: a well-run session matched to your team, ideal for an offsite, a reset, or giving people real tools for pressure. You get something useful in the room, fast.

The consultancy is the ongoing work with leaders on what sits underneath the culture: the systems, communication and support that decide whether people thrive or wear out. A single session can lift the mood for a week. The culture work is what changes how the team actually runs.

Plenty of teams start with a workshop and go deeper from there. Others come straight to the culture work, because they already know one session won't move the thing they're really worried about.

What is the culture and performance consultancy?

It's for leaders who want more than a one-off session. Rather than a single workshop, we work with you directly on the things that actually decide whether people perform and stay: how the work is designed and led, how managers coach and support their teams, how feedback and communication flow, and how people recover and stay steady under sustained pressure.

The belief underneath it is simple. Culture drives performance. When the conditions are right, good people do their best work and stick around. When they're not, you feel it in attrition, in disengagement, and eventually in the numbers.

This work helps guide businesses toward meeting their psychosocial obligations, the proactive, higher-order approach regulators actually favour: changing how work is designed, managed and led, rather than just adding tools to cope. It's the substance most workshops and EAPs don't touch. The legal duty itself always stays with the employer, so this supports that responsibility rather than replacing it, and it's where the real protection sits, for your people and the business.

Who is Base State for?

On the workshop side, it's for whoever's been asked to organise something meaningful for the team: an HR or People and Culture lead who wants something practical rather than boring, a founder who can see their team's under pressure, or an event organiser who needs a polished session for an offsite or conference.

On the consultancy side, it's for leaders who own performance and are tired of watching good people burn out or walk: sales managers, team leads and business owners running high-pressure, target-driven teams, where how the floor is led shows up directly in the results.

What are corporate wellbeing workshops?

They're professionally facilitated sessions that help employees manage stress, sharpen focus, recover from pressure and build practical tools they can use at work. A good one doesn't just feel nice for an hour. It gives people something they can actually reach for when the day gets busy or the team needs to reset, whether that's breathing tools, stress regulation techniques, focus practices, recovery strategies, or a bit of practical education on how the body and mind respond under pressure.

What kinds of sessions can you help organise?

A range, depending on what suits the team, including:

  • Corporate wellbeing workshops

  • Workplace stress management sessions

  • Team wellbeing and connection sessions

  • Retreat and offsite wellbeing experiences

  • Conference wellbeing sessions

  • Performance and focus workshops

  • Breathwork and nervous system regulation

  • High-pressure team reset sessions

The tone can be calm, practical, energising, educational or more experiential. It comes down to what your people actually need.

Are the sessions just Breathwork?

No. Breathwork might be part of some sessions, and was a big part of how Base State started. The broader focus is practical workplace wellbeing and performance: stress management, nervous system regulation, focus, recovery, resilience, team connection and staying steady under pressure. The tool matters less than the outcome. The real question is what your team needs, and who's the right person to deliver it.

Can this help with stress and team performance?

Yes, when it's done well. Workplace stress is one of the main reasons businesses get in touch, and a good session helps people understand how stress affects their focus, energy, mood and decisions, then gives them simple ways to reset during the day. Performance works the same way. It isn't just about working harder. It depends on focus, recovery, communication and the ability to stay steady when the pressure's on.

Worth being straight about the limits, though. A workshop is practical training for the pressures people already deal with at work. It isn't therapy, and it isn't a replacement for proper mental health support. If you want lasting change in how a team performs, that's the culture work, not a single session.

What makes a wellbeing workshop actually useful?

More than ticking a box. The good ones have a clear purpose, a strong facilitator and tools people still remember afterwards. They feel professional, easy to follow and relevant to the workplace, rather than awkward, forced or full of vague wellness language. That's the difference between a session people forget by Friday and one they're still using weeks later.

Do you cover retreats, off sites and smaller teams, across Australia and New Zealand?

Yes to all of it. Retreats and offsites are often the perfect setting, since people are already stepping away from normal work demands and there's space for a proper reset. Smaller businesses are a strong fit too, because they usually want to support their team but don't have the time or internal resources to build a full wellbeing program. Base State connects businesses with facilitators right across Australia and New Zealand, and depending on the event, sessions can run in person, online or in a hybrid format. The consultancy runs online, so location isn't a barrier there.

How do I get started?

You don't need a perfect brief. For a workshop, a few details are enough: your location, a rough date, how many people, the type of event, the outcome you want, and the tone that would suit your team. For the culture work, it's even simpler: just tell us what's going on with the team and what you wish was different. Most businesses start with something like "our team's under pressure" or "we want something practical for our offsite, nothing fluffy." That's plenty to work with.
